The Kitzbühel ETU Triathlon European Championships took place today in Austria. Representing Cyprus in the Women's Olympic Distance (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) age group F30-34 were athletes Carmen Macheriotou and Yiota Chapoupi.
Carmen's race report:
My swim today was a pleasant surprise to say the least. I went from a 20'30" PBin the sea to a 19'11" in a lake! Thank you TYR Sport and Natalia Roubina Avgousti for giving me this magic wetsuit. I didn't have any resistance in my arm strokes and my legs where fresh as daisies upon exiting the water.
I came out of the water in 3rd place and set off on what I knew was going to be a tough bike course. Coach Perry Agass' training methods served me well. I absolutely loved it! Dont get me wrong, it was painful, but I could feel the effects my new coach's guidance. I overtook the 2nd placed girl early on and finished the bike leg in 2nd place.
There's not much I can say about the run. I haven't run for a month now and just wanted to finish it in one piece (ie not aggravate my existing injuries or create any new ones). Thank you On, Gegis Gazarian,my Cloud shoes protected my feet all the way!
I was overtaken by the girl that finished 2nd about halfway through the run and finished 3rd.
Congratulations Carmen!
